Relax, this is not a post about Covid, but ever since that pesky virus broke curfew and snuck out of its lab in China, far too many ordinary people have gotten high on the idea that our governments are the best arbiters of what is true and honest information.
Recent polling, and I'll be damned if I can find the link now that I need it, shows a general swelling of undeserved trust in people drawn to positions of power. Those who, as both individuals and in groups, so abhor being challenged, questioned, or subjected to transparency or scrutiny that they erect, at every opportunity, bureaucratic barriers for protection.
To these elected and appointed custodians of truth, Free speech is their enemy, and like it or not, that thing we refer to simply as The Pandemic elevated their war upon it while revealing that their right to be wrong has supremacy over your right to be right or wrong.
