The political left’s addiction to Alinsky may be getting them into the kind of trouble from which they cannot get out. Pick a target. Freeze it. Be relentless in your assault from any possible angle. It can be an issue, a person, a group, or just some idea. They are usually good at it, but the 2024 elections left them holding an empty bag. Trump is Hitler didn’t work. Abortion or bust didn’t work. Racism and sexism didn’t work. The haters couldn’t get enough people to hate themselves, each other, or their political opponents.
Americans voted for Donald Trump, whose agenda was not hidden behind vague word-salad promises about being unburdened by what has been while promising not to change anything, or joy, or hope, or anything else. Trump was very clear.
We’re a few weeks into that clarity, and the Democrats have finally picked a target. Trump’s quick-reaction forensic audit force (DOGE), operating as a lawfully created official faction within the Executive branch, has demonstrated the ability to illuminate every dark corner of the Federal Government. Democrats have decided to defend the spending, to borrow a phrase from the Orbit Gum Gal - Vanessa Branch, no matter what.”
The Left’s reasons for objecting are…stupid.
They’ve branded Elon Musk the co-president after hiding or ignoring Joe Biden's incapacity for years. He clearly wasn’t performing his duties—not all if any of them—so someone else was. Joe had one or more actual co-presidents, so I’d like to encourage the Democrats to continue feeding this one because it opens them up to this inconvenient truth all the way to 2026.
I can’t say these statements occurred contiguously but that the latter adequately contrasts the former.
Dems lied a lot or were clueless aiders and abettors under Biden, and your new concern is petty, partisan, and irrelevant.
And, as Victor Davis Hanson pointed out here, plenty of Democrat presidents throughout American history have handed off significant responsibility for running parts of their office to others, including captains of industry. It is neither new nor exceptional, but insisting Musk’s work undermines democracy may only undermine Democrats, so let them whine.
Musk’s role in leading DOGE is little more than that of the guy directing resources for a forensic audit. He is not the COO, CFO or CEO of the government but a guy with a team tasked by executive order to inspect the books.
We spend over 4 trillion a year and have amassed 36.5 trillion in debt. Our grandchildren’s Grandchildren’s labor has already been spent (plus interest) before they can be born and find work to pay “their fair share” of something that won’t be when they are finally old enough to be forced to pay for it. Any objection to slowing or stopping this uncovering of systemic waste is immoral. It may even be evil. So, the question isn’t where’d DOGE get the authority (we know the answer - from the President); it is what is it that you are so desperate to hide?
NH Democrat Senator Jeanne Shaheen frames the decision on USAID as an ill-advised and costly move.
Shaheen, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called the Trump administration’s decision to shut down USAID “an ill-advised and costly move that will only cause further chaos and leave Americans and American interests exposed.”
Cutting off foreign aid “doesn’t make America safer. That doesn’t make us stronger. That doesn’t make us more prosperous,” Shaheen added.
But Trump didn’t shut it down. He moved it under the Department of State, where 247 of its previous 14,000 employees will administer or manage whatever foreign aid helps America’s interests instead of the Democrat party and its political war machine. As if USAID funded condoms in Gaza, Transgender Opera, or the thousand other cutouts robbing future taxpayers - to help Americans.
I bring up Shaheen because she ran for the US Senate in 2008, whining about spending and the national debt burden. It was about 10.4 Trillion (ish) when she took office in January of 2009. She’s been there ever since, and it is nearly 37 trillion now. But keep talking, Granny Shaheen; the sound bites will help whoever challenges you for that seat in 2026.
A midterm wipeout would be just the thing after the political damage suffered in 2024. Democrats have learned no lessons, and they can’t count on Republicans to snatch defeat from the jaws of potential mid-term victories. It could still happen but the way the left is behaving, it is getting less likely.
So please, keep pretending the government is not top-heavy with waste fraud and abuse. Defend the spending and see where that gets you because you can find yourself deeper in the wilderness, especially when you work so hard to get there.

Every politician and government agency should be audited!
It's unfortunate that the rhetoric against Musk's team's investigation and actions are not just focusing on the legitimate technical concerns, per Dr Wolf's latest:

That said, the efforts to tame the wild federal checkbook are making solid progress:
